Pioneer in Women’s Empowerment and Social Service
Mumtaz Begum Nawab was the visionary matriarch and guiding force behind a powerful movement for women’s upliftment and community service in Bengaluru. Her efforts to empower women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds began in the early 1990s, when she observed the lack of basic healthcare, hygiene, and education among women in the slum areas of Rajendranagar, near Koramangala.With a teaching background in Bombay, her primary focus was on educating underprivileged women working as domestic help. Starting with a small group of 20 women, whom she personally taught the Quran and basic hygiene, she went on to establish an adult education center for women named “Tarbiyat-ul-Banath”—meaning “Education of Daughters”—in 2005 at Rajendranagar. Today, the center offers free tailoring and computer classes alongside Quranic learning with tafsir to nearly 350 women. A batch of 25 women was also trained in car driving to promote economic independence. Many of her students have since established their own tailoring units and small businesses, achieving self-sufficiency. The center now operates from a three-story building.
Mrs. Mumtaz Nawab also played a pivotal role in shaping the ethos of the Emmar Charitable Trust, a family-run organization that continues to focus on education, vocational training, and financial aid for marginalized communities. The Trust periodically sponsors the marriages of underprivileged girls and provides monthly pensions for senior citizens and widows across all faiths, ensuring dignity and support for the most vulnerable. Her life was a true reflection of compassion, dedication, and unwavering service to the underprivileged—particularly women working as domestic help, widows, and the elderly. Mumtaz Begum Nawab’s legacy stands as a testament to how one woman’s vision can ignite lasting empowerment, service, and social transformation. Her family continues her mission through the ongoing initiatives of the Emmar Charitable Trust.

Dr. Mubeen G, holder of 6 patents in Pharmacology Dr Mubeen G, pharmaceutical scientist, distinguished academician and an avid researcher in analytical method developments, natural product-based drug analysis, innovative chromatographic techniques, AI-integrated analytical tools, and is committed to bridging traditional knowledge with cutting-edge innovation in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
Born & brought up in Bangalore, Karnataka. Early schooling was at Colonel Hill English School, Bangalore passing High school in 1983. I & II PUC at Jyoti Nivas College for Women, Bangalore. B Pharm in 1990 & M Pharm in 1992 at Government College of Pharmacy, Bangalore. Dr. Mubeen obtained her PhD at Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore in 2007 – Awarded from Bangalore University for the project work entitled “Synthesis and Pharmacological studies of Potential Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents”. Growing up in an educated and supportive family always inspired her to value professional education and hard work. With a strong interest in Healthcare and Medicine, she secured a government merit seat for B. Pharm in Bangalore and an MBBS seat at Gulbarga. She chose to pursue B. Pharm in Bangalore to follow her passion and build her career in the pharmaceutical field.
Dr. Mubeen authored over 35 International & National research publications. She has 6 patents, with contributions spanning drug development, pharmaceutical analysis, Quality Assurance and novel bio analytical methodologies. In order to stay updated with emerging scientific methods and technologies, she completed a CCE Proficiency Course with A+ grade on "Mass Spectroscopy in Proteomics and Genomics" from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2013. She won the prestigious Dr. P.D. Sethi Annual in 2013 for paper entitled “RP-HPLC method for Quantitation of Epinastine HCl in Eye drops. With a teaching experience spanning over three decades, Dr. Mubeen has guided more than 40 Postgraduate research projects and presently guiding two Ph.D. candidates. She is an active contributor to academic discussions, industry collaborations, and research initiatives and continues to inspire students, researchers, and professionals.

Passion Meets Purpose
Fathima Saba S was born in Bengaluru in a middle-class family consisting of parents and four sisters, with Saba being the youngest. My father is an auto driver, and my mother is a homemaker. Her early schooling was in St. Joseph’s English High School, Bangalore where she passed out in 2016. She went on to get her Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with a specialization in Finance from Maharani’s Cluster University, Bangalore in 2019-21. Her choice to become a social worker was deeply influenced by a personal experience in her childhood. When her father met with an accident, her extended family and community came forward to support them, financially and emotionally. This incident shaped her belief that helping one another can change lives. From the age of 15, Saba began working to support herself and learned the value of financial stability. Over time, this grew into a passion for serving and uplifting the community. One of the major challenges she faced was overcoming the stereotype that “a girl cannot do it.” Proving her ability and dedication in a field not many women are encouraged to pursue required persistence and self-belief. Her family has always supported her. Alongside them, her colleagues and mentors recognized Saba’s vision and passion for community service. They motivated her and provided her with platforms to explore, grow, and showcase her abilities. The COVID-19 lockdown was a major turning point in her life. Serving the community during such a crisis made Saba realize this was her calling. Despite hurdles, her faith strengthened her resolve to dedicate her life to social work. Saba has authored and published the Nagarika Seva Kendra Handbook, a guide for NGOs wishing to set up CSC centers. Her hobbies include cooking and exploring entrepreneurship opportunities.
